Robert De Niro Is Victim of Attempted Burglary in Manhattan

A woman broke into a temporary rental home where the actor Robert De Niro was staying early Monday morning and attempted to steal items from the residence, according to the police and Mr. De Niro’s publicist.

Officers from the Police Department’s 19th Precinct on the Upper East Side saw the woman, Shanice Aviles, 30, entering the home on 65th Street between Lexington and Park Avenues at about 2:45 a.m., according to the police and a law enforcement official, who was not authorized to speak about the case.

Ms. Aviles entered through a basement door, which had visible signs of forced entry, the police said.

When the officers followed Ms. Aviles into the house, they discovered her attempting to remove property, according to the police. They did not provide details on what she had in her possession.

Ms. Aviles was arrested at the rental property, the police said. She is expected to be arraigned Monday evening or Tuesday morning, according to a Manhattan district attorney spokesman.

Stan Rosenfield, a publicist for Mr. De Niro, confirmed that there was an attempted robbery at the actor’s temporary rental home but declined to comment further.
