‘Publishing error’ delays Dinesh D’Souza’s book ‘2000 Mules’

Citing “a publishing error,” the publisher of a book version of “2000 Mules” — a documentary film by the conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza that used dubious evidence and logical leaps to claim widespread ballot box fraud — said the book would be delayed until the fall.

The book was originally scheduled to be released on Aug. 30 by Regnery Publishing, a division of Salem Media Group, which produced the documentary and calls itself “America’s leading media company serving the nation’s Christian and conservative communities.” Regnery’s authors include conservative figures such as Ann Coulter, Senator Ted Cruz, Dennis Prager, Sebastian Gorka and Senator Josh Hawley, whose book “The Tyranny of Big Tech” was published by Regnery after being dropped by Simon & Schuster.

Regnery said on Twitter this week that the publication date was postponed to Oct. 25 “due to a publishing error.” Thomas Spence, Regnery’s president and publisher, wrote in an email that “the error does not affect the argument of the book.”

Regnery did not respond to questions about the nature of the error.

It is highly unusual for a publisher to recall and reprint a book over an error. Instead, publishers tend to fix errors in digital and paperback editions.

Mr. D’Souza wrote on Twitter that “somehow a significant error got missed by the publisher” but “is now corrected.”

“There is an elaborate sausage-making process that goes into a book,” he wrote. He did not respond to a request for comment.

The publication delay was reported on Twitter this week by the freelance reporter Nancy Levine.
